Primary Animals Raised: Poultry

The struggle to find honest, healthy, and flavorful chicken led Jeff and Paige Lambert to start Songbird Hill Farm in Kankakee, Illinois. Unsatisfied with the chicken they found in grocery stores, they began raising their own in their backyard. Over time, that small beginning grew into a full-scale, pasture-based poultry farm dedicated to producing real food with integrity. Their belief is simple: chicken should be flavorful, nutritious, and raised transparently, and their pasture-raised system is how they make that happen.

Jeff and Paige are the husband-and-wife team behind Songbird Hill Farm. What started as frustration over the lack of trustworthy chicken became a shared mission to raise food differently, with honesty, transparency, and purpose. Together, they’ve built a small family farm that reflects their values of hard work, stewardship of the land, and care for the animals that sustain it. They believe good food is more than something you eat, and it connects you to the people and the place it comes from. When they’re not tending to their chickens, you’ll find them walking their land, spending time with their growing family, and finding new ways to make each season on the farm a little better.

Raising Practices:

  • Pasture-Raised Poultry: The chickens spend nearly their entire lives outdoors, in fresh air and sunshine. They’re moved to new pasture every day, never staying in the same spot for more than 24 hours.
  • Diet: Their diet combines freshly-milled, high-quality, non-GMO feed with the rich biology of the land itself. On pasture, the birds naturally forage for grasses, seeds, insects, and worms, creating nutrient-dense meat the way nature intended.
  • Results: The result is healthier birds and richer soil that produce unmatched flavor that remind you what real chicken is supposed to taste like.
