Primary Animals Raised: Pork

Tanglewood Acres is a small family farm in Mill Creek, Indiana, where the family raises pigs with a focus on natural animal behavior, thoughtful land stewardship, and nutrient-dense food. Their approach is centered around “Food Raised Simply,” allowing animals to live and forage in environments that closely reflect how they would behave naturally. By raising pigs outdoors in wooded areas and managing the farm in harmony with the surrounding landscape, Tanglewood Acres provides responsibly raised pork with transparency from the farm to the customer.

Raising Practices

  • Forest-Raised Pork: Pigs are raised outdoors in wooded areas where they have room to roam, root, explore, and express their natural behaviors. The pigs forage for nuts, roots, plants, and other foods naturally found throughout the wooded landscape.
  • Non-GMO Supplemental Feed: In addition to what they forage, the pigs receive high-quality, non-GMO supplemental feed to support balanced nutrition.
  • No Routine Antibiotics: Antibiotics are not used routinely. Animals are cared for based on their individual health needs rather than being given preventative antibiotics as a standard practice.
  • No Added Hormones/Steroids: Pigs are raised without added hormones or growth-promoting hormone treatments.
  • Humane Animal Care: The farm prioritizes low-stress handling, outdoor living, and conditions that support the animals’ health and natural behaviors.
  • Land Stewardship: Tanglewood Acres works with the natural landscape, using wooded areas and outdoor spaces in a way that supports healthy animals and responsible long-term land management.
